Valentine Heart Strings

Our book today was "How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. We also sang the "Lion Hunt" before we made our Valentine's Day Heart Strings craft. We made our craft with recycled tp rolls, red paint, string and beads. Aren't they fabulous! They will make great window decorations year-round:)

Valentine Hearts

Today we made Valentine's Hearts using markers, coffee filters, construction paper, glitter, stamps and sequins. First we used markers to make designs on our coffee filters, then we sprayed water on them to make the colors bleed together! Next step was to dry the filters with a hair dryer. While we waited for the coffee filter to be really really dry we cut out the heart border from the construction paper. Once that was finished, we glued the parts together and decorated it with the extras:) They turned out beautiful and will make wonderful Valentines! Our book today was "How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.

Sparkly Snowflakes at Mommy and Me

We made Sparkly Snowflakes at Mommy and Me this week! First we read a wonderful children's book "Snow Sounds" by David Johnson and sang the Lion Hunt song. Then we talked about how to create our snowflakes for different level abilities. The simplest and quickest version was to paint the pre-glued fancy Popsicle sticks white with a Q-tip and then dip in silver glitter. To step it up a notch we had markers, paper shapes and sequins to add to this version. Check out how wonderfully creative our 5-year olds and under got with this project:) And I'd like to thank our volunteer Miss Betty for all her help and love she gives our little ones in class.

Holiday Trees

Counting ChristmasWe had an extremely small class today... 2 children! Must be the Holidays:) William, Clara and the adults had fun with such a sparse group anyhow! We read "Counting Christmas" by Karen Katz and then worked on our craft. Today we made Holiday Trees. The background is blue and white paint spread over a sheet of paper with a recycled piece of cardboard, the tree is torn paper and we decorated with more paper, glitter glue and used a star-shaped sponge with yellow paint for the star. Clara used stuffing to create snow. They did a great job! Happy Holidays

Children used wrapping paper for the trees in their winter scene background, construction paper for the tree trunks and decorations, paint for their handprints and snow, and google eyes because they are cool:) Check out our Holiday fun!

Penguin Snowglobes

If You Were a Penguin (Hardcover) Today we read "If You Were a Penguin" by Florence Minor and Wendell Minor, where we learned that people do lots of things that penguins do:) Our craft included making a penguin snowglobe from a recycled cd, yarn, construction paper scraps, glue and fabulous glitter to finish it off. They turned out great!
