Around the World Summer Camp at CCAA

We finished the last week of summer art camp! This week we went "Around the World" and visited Egypt, Africa, Japan, Peru and Mexico. The kids used clay, printmaking, drawing, painting, weaving and more. So much fun we even had a little dance party break before our ARTshow.

Summer Art CCAA Camp - Famous Artists!

Today concluded my first week of Art Camp at CCAA! I had a great group of kids 6-10 years old who explored some famous artist and tried to replicate their ideas using a variety of mediums. Check out all their very creative and hard work. I'm so proud of each of them:)

Adventures of Middle School Art as a LT Sub [Part 2]

We finished up our Peruvian Weavings and Incorporations and have moved on to Asia. Our concentration is on Koi fish and their symbolism. Students first started with a wet on wet cool colored watercolor background. Next we practiced drawing koi fish and eventually worked our way up to drawing 2 fish with one of them turning to transfer onto our foam etching plate. We had a very messy fun time printing our fish all over our watercolor backgrounds and then enhancing them with warm colored pencils and at least one symbol.

The other project we are working on is a one-point perspective glue pastel drawing of Russian Onion Domes. Students had to have at least one building on each side of the road and one at the top of the road. This is a hard concept but we did great!

Open Mixed Media and Pottery Class at CCAA

Our weekend class has turned out to be full of very creative kids! They are really interested in a variety of art making techniques. They have all tried out pottery both hand-building and on the wheel. Other areas they tried were Foam Etching Prints, Bookmaking, Upcycled Magazine Frames, and Peruvian Weavings. I'll post photos as we go...

Adventures of Middle School Art as a LT Sub

Life as a LTS for middle school art on a cart has it's logistic challenges as well as it's adventures. 

The students had already started sketching out their Egyptian Cartouches when I started in March. They had to either draw an Egyptian God or a human turned towards the cartouche with their name in hyroglyphics. They finished them off with details and colored pencil.

The next project was a Romare Bearden inspired paper collages in 6th Grade Art. Children were told they would get a paper bike and they could take it anywhere no matter if it was imaginary or not. The directions were to only use paper, no pencil marks showing, think about composition and use detail to create interest. For those who finished up early, children created a photo-montage from magazine cuttings in the Romare Bearden fashion.

Now we are finishing up Peruvian Weavings that we are incorporating into a background on which they think they might want to use or take their weaving. We learned how the men usually do the actual weaving, the women dye the materials and examined their wonderful patterns.

PreSchool ART! Week 4

Boy, we were BUSY today!

After we finished up our heartstring project we started a couple weeks ago with beads, we made Andy Warhol inspired handprints with marker and paint using a grid just like Andy. We also looked at Georgia O'Keeffe flowers and made our own using watercolor and printmaking together. The children also sharpened all the crayons into wax paper and we ironed them to look like stained glass window. Lastly, we had a choice to make a butterfly or bird using feathers, marker, paper and watercolor. Like I said, we were BUSY:)
