Today we celebrated winter by making winter tree art after we read "Winter Trees" by Carole Gerber. The book was a great way to explain different shaped trees as well as offered an opportunity to talk about our recent snowfall in our area. We painted our backgrounds and then collaged strips and/or triangles of paper on top. The strips/triangles were decorated with scraps of wrapping paper, marker, and crayon to add color.
A special thank you to our volunteer, Miss Betty. We appreciate everything you do:)

Snow Angels
Today in Mommy and Me Class at the Exton Mall CCAA Studio, we read "Carl's Snowy Afternoon" by Alexandra Day. The book is mostly word free and the children really had a great time looking at the pictures and trying to figure out what was going on in the story. Carl is a dog who takes Amy out on an adventure to play in the snow. Our craft was making snow angels. We used watercolor to make a background, coffee filters for the wings and dress, yarn for hair and colored paper for eyes and heart mouth. After everything was glued on we dressed it up with glitter and made it snow with white paint! Here are some of our friends from class with their artwork.

Rainy Day Fun with Duck Tape
It's pouring outside today so we made superhero rings with duck tape. We used cut up cardboard from the recycle bin, measured my son's finger and used duck tape to wrap around all the way. We then used more cardboard in a shape of a circle and secured that on the ring and decorated with more cut up duck tape in shape of Green Lantern's symbol. Now we need to go save the universe!

If You Were A Penguin: Mommy and Me Class
.
Today we read "If You Were a Penguin" by Wendell Minor and Florence Minor. Our lesson today was inspired by all the penguin posts I've been seeing on Pinterest. The kiddos were thrilled they had to put on smocks today because that meant MESSY! They painted the background blue, glued on the penguin body part, painted white for eyes and belly and assembled the wings , nose, scarf and eyeballs. At the very end they made snow! So much fun:)

Snowmen at Night: Mommy and Me Class
We read "Snowmen at Night" by Caralyn Buehner. The children loved hearing about all the fun activities the snowpeople did while we humans slept. Great book! We then created this mixed media project using paint, pencil, marker, glue and construction paper. Looks like a blizzard to me!
Mommy and Me Handprint Art - Snowflakes
The kiddos loved this one where they got to use all their favorite things: Paint, Glue, Glitter and Scissors! They made beautiful snowflakes using their handprints
New Year Mommy and Me
We started out the new year reading "Jump for Joy: A Book of Months" by Megan Halsey. Kids traced their hands and decorated their page using construction paper border and watercolor with pasted calendar. I hope they will keep these hanging all year long:)

Handprint Art
As a Mom, I love love love handprint art!
Here's a fishy collage with painted handprints we did over the summer. We used tissue paper glue, googly eyes and paint. It's a sticky messy project so I'm sure the kids will love to do one too.
